Who we are
Boy Scout Pack and Troop 308 of Plainfield, Indiana, were sponsored by Hope United Presbyterian Church in the 1960’s and 70’s but the Troop then lapsed for many years although the Pack continued to meet. In 1999 as seven Pack 308 Webelos Scouts prepared to make the transition from Cub Scouting into Boy Scouting, their parents approached the Church about reactivating the Troop with the hope that it would grow beyond these seven boys to once again become a vital organization.
In February 1999 these seven fifth-grade boys began their Boy Scout careers and were soon joined by a sixth-grader. In subsequent years many Webelos Scouts have transitioned into Troop 308 and other boys have joined by transfer from other troops as their families moved into the Plainfield area.
Over the years since the Troop was reactivated, boys and adults have attended summer camps each year at Ransburg or Maumee; delegations went to White Stag leadership camps and Philmont Boy Scout Ranch; Scouts have broadened their experiences to include Order of the Arrow, Fire crafter, and Venture Scouting; and members have attended district and council camporees, explored monthly camping and outdoor events, and participated in service projects at camps and in the local community. The Troop continues to meet weekly on Sundays from 3:00-4:30 PM at Hope United Presbyterian and to welcome visitors and potential new members.
In 2003 the Troop was proud to celebrate the achievement of its first Eagle Scout. Since that time many more additional Scouts have attained Eagle rank along with several others working on their final requirements at this time. Most of the Eagle Scouts that have reached their 18th birthday continue to work with the troop as Assistant Scoutmasters. Several of our scouts have traveled to Philmont, National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, and the Northern Tier.
